Throughout the year, coastal Neighbourhood Policing Teams adopt proactive approaches in the aim of preventing crime before it happens.
A key initiative adopted during the night time economy is the use of a machine called an ‘itemiser’. The machine detects traces of substances such as cocaine and other illegal drugs.
On Saturday 29 August, 165 people had their hands swabbed as they entered Busters in Skegness.
Readings indicated the presence of substances such as cocaine and cannabis. As a result of this, 12 people were searched during the evening, with one person found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine and another found to be in possession of cannabis.
The drugs were seized and the individuals agreed to a community resolution where the engagement is recorded and considered in the event of further offending.
As ever, the machine was really well received by staff and the public who appreciated the overall initiative.
Sergeant Moore said: “These initiatives aim to create a safer environment for residents and visitors, by tackling drug related activity and subsequent anti-social behaviour, while also giving people access to support services when they need them.”
